Without Box Office stars, Will the movie, ‘PayDay’ make it at the Cinema?

It is a tradition for Nollywood directors to use major and popular faces to promote their movies in cinemas; with the belief that the faces sell the movies.

However, revolutionary director, Cheta  Chukwu, has further echoed the newly formed perspectives of cinema goers in Nigeria, who are more concerned about resourceful stories rather than the faces, as he rowed his boat to a totally new direction by making use of young and talented actors in his cinema debut “PayDay”

Produced by Orwi Manny Ameh, written and directed by Cheta Chukwu, the movie features actors like Big Brother Naija runner Up Bisola Aiyeola, Baaj Adebule, Comedian Ebiye Victor, Mawuli Gavor, Frank Adekunle, Meg Otanwa, Zack Orji and more.

Cheta Chukwu’s PayDay follows the story of two best friends and flat mates, Paul (Baaj Adebule) and Ortega (Ebiye Victor) who, just before they are about to renew their yearly rent, their Landlord dies very suddenly, and seemingly without any heir apparent. The young men seize upon the unfortunate but good opportunity to ‘enjoy’ a little. However there was a change in circumstances when the Landlords daughter (Segilola Ogidan) turns up the following morning.

The movie, ‘PayDay’ , which has been ruled out of the race to be one of Nollywood’s record breaking Box Office movie due to the Director’s decision  to not  cast major box office stars, has gone ahead to join one of Nollywood movies to be selected for an international Film Festival. Come April 23rd, 2018, the movie will be screening alongside other international feature films, documentary films and TV series, animation films, thematic TV programs and TV spots, which was produced during the period of February, 1st, 2017 to January, 31st, 2018.

Hitting the Cinemas soon, Cheta Chukwu promises a story like you have never seen before; a feel good comedy and an extraordinary acting skill from the young actors with PayDay but the question remains can a good story sell in Cinemas without popular faces?
