Mohammed Umar named as acting chairman of EFCC after Magu suspension

Mohammed Umar has been named as the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

This followed the suspension issued to Ibrahim Magu who held the position until yesterday.

Magu was suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari over allegations of diverting recovered looted funds.

The Attorney General of the Federal, AGF Abubakar Malami, had tabled the allegation in a memo which also accused him of other corrupt practices.

He was arrested in Abuja and immediately made to face a panel led by Ayo Salami, a former president of the court of appeal.

His replacement, Mohammed Umar who formerly held the position of director of operations has since resumed duties as acting chairman of the agency.
