Alex Iwobi tested positive for Coronavirus to miss Benin AFCON match

Everton star, Alex Iwobi has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the 2021 AFCON qualification game against the Benin Republic on Saturday.

This comes after the players and staff members of the Super Eagles took mandatory coronavirus tests before departing Nigeria and immediately they landed in Porto Novo on Friday.

It was gathered that Iwobi has been withdrawn from the team and he’s expected to take another test to determine his condition. He might also miss Wednesday’s game against Lesotho if the new result supports the previous one.

The Everton forward was required in the starting lineup but this sudden situation will force Gernot Rohr, Super Eagles’ head coach, to tweak his list.
The Super Eagles match against Benin kicks off at 5pm.
