Aisha Wakil, others declared wanted by the Nigerian Army over Chibok Girls video
The Nigerian Army on Sunday declared three persons, including a woman, wanted allegedly in connection with the over 200 Chibok girls abducted by Boko Haram since 2014.
They are Ahmed Salkida, (Ambassador) Ahmed U. Bolori and Aisha Wakil.

Why I visited 20 prostitutes – Pope Francis 
Pope Francis has described his surprise visit to 20 former prostitutes on Friday as some his activities to mark “Fridays of Mercy”. 
According to the pope, “Fridays of Mercy” was termed by him to carry out one unscheduled act of mercy a month on a Friday — mainly in or near Rome — throughout the pope‘s Jubilee year, which started in December and runs to November. 
Recall that the pontiff, who has repeatedly described the human trafficking behind much prostitution as “a crime against humanity”, sat down with the group, including four women from Albania, seven from Nigeria and six from Romania. 
The other three hailed from Italy, Tunisia and the Ukraine, according to a Vatican statement. The women, all aged around 30, are being sheltered by a Catholic association in an apartment in the Italian capital after being rescued from their pimps. 
The 79-year old listened for over an hour to the stories of the former sex slaves, “all of whom suffered serious physical abuse and live under protection,” the Vatican said. In January, he visited a care home for the elderly and people in a vegetative state, while in February he went to a community for drug addicts. 
In March he toured a refugee centre before visiting asylum seekers on the Greek island of Lesbos in April. The pontiff then spent time with the seriously mentally ill in May before visiting old and ill priests in June and dedicating his July “Friday of Mercy” to sick children in Krakow after praying for the victims of the Holocaust at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi death camp.

Bill Gates Foundation gives $1m to Borno govt for Boko Haram victims

The Borno Government said it received a cash donation of one million U.S. dollars from the Bill Gates Foundation for victims of Boko Haram insurgency in the state.
Gov. Kashim Shettima announced this on Sunday in Mainok, Kaga Local Government Area, while distributing food items and farm inputs purchased by the government.
“We are gathered here today to commence distribution of a key intervention of one million U.S. dollars food and farming aide donated by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.’’
He said that about 40,000 households were targetted to benefit from the distribution.
Shettima said each of the household would receive a 25 kilogramme bag of rice and a 10 kilogramme bag of beans.
He said that part of the money donated by the foundation was used to acquire 100 hectares farm for beans cultivation.
Shettima explained that 200 farm-families will be allocated tilled and fertile land, measuring half hectare each along with improved seeds, fertilizer, chemicals and technical supervision to grow food crops.
The governor also announced the release of two trucks of maize grains to add to the food procured with Gates’ donation.
“We are grateful to God for creating people like Mr Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda.
“These leading lights of philanthropy across the world have shown love to the good people of Borno at a time we are on the ground and looking for any hand to hold in trying to lift ourselves up.
“Now, with the emerging peace in Borno, it is only necessary that, as post insurgency response, we focus on supporting all categories of victims.
“From those in Internally Displaced Persons camps, those in communities within Maiduguri, those in our satellite camps outside Maiduguri, to those in communities across different local government areas.’’


Five killed in auto crash on Third Mainland Bridge

No fewer than five persons lost their lives on Sunday evening, following an accident, which occurred at the 3rd Mainland bridge inward Iyana Oworo by UNILAG Water front in Lagos State.
The crash involved 3 vehicles which included a LAGBUS, Hilux truck belonging to a local vigilante group and a Rover jeep.
Five persons were confirmed dead – three female adult and two children.
Five persons were also injured and were taken by LASAMBUS to the Trauma Centre.
Lagos State Emergency Agency Response Unit said it had recovered the vehicles, while the dead bodies had been taken by SEHMU to Mainland Hospital Mortuary
LASEMA General Manager Mr. Michael Akindele said proper investigation would be carried out on the cause of the accident by the relevant Government Agencies.
He, however, advised motorists to prevent over speeding and also adhere to all traffic rules and regulations to avoid such incident.
Agencies incolved in the rescue operations were LASTMA, FRSC, Nigerian Police, RRS.

Tension in Ekiti over Speaker’s refusal to swear-in lawmaker-elect

An interest group in Ekiti PDP, Ado Ekiti Progressive Movement (APM), has called on the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Kola Okuwawole to obey the court order and inaugurate Toyin Obayemi with immediate effect in line with the verdict and prevent anarchy in the state.
This follows the Speaker’s refusal to inaugurate Obayemi as the member representing Ado Constituency 1 as ordered by the court.
The Federal High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti in a judgment delivered on July 4 by Justice Taiwo Taiwo sacked Musa Arogundade as the lawmaker and ordered the Speaker to swear in Obayemi immediately because he was the valid candidate for the Assembly poll.
Obayemi who presented himself for inauguration on August 2 after serving a copy of the judgment and Certificate of Return on the Assembly was blocked from entering the chambers and was bundled out of the complex by security officers on the order of the Speaker.
The Assembly is believed to be blocking Obayemi’s inauguration on grounds that the PDP had filed a notice of appeal against the judgment which sacked Arogundade from office.

Stop match-making ‘brothers and sisters’ – Adeboye warns RCCG Pastors
General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has banned Pastors in the church from match-making members.
Adeboye at yesterday’s service which marked the end of the 64th Annual Convention said there should be no more cases of arranging brothers and sisters for marriage.
“Don’t be entangled with marriage among members because you will bear the consequences,” Adeboye said.
“It is not your duty to arrange a brother and a sister for marriage because you cannot arrange their fruitfulness. Don’t get involved in marriage by proxy.”
Adeboye urged pastors to teach their spiritual children to seek the face of the Lord in marriage because every marriage has its challenges.


Buhari is planning to kill Nnamdi Kanu – IPOB alleges
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Sunday, alleged that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government was plotting to kill it’s detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The pro-Biafra group, in a statement by its spokespersons,‎ Emma Nmezu and Clifford Chukwuemeka Iroanya‎, also declared their total affinity with the Niger Delta Avengers.

Part of the statement reads: “Furthermore, IPOB is aware that Buhari is planning to kill our leader Nnamdi Kanu and is doing so with active connivance of some Igbo politicians with certain executive members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. We warn Buhari and his cohorts that the murder of Nnamdi Kanu will spell doom not just for Nigeria but the entire sub-region because the fall out will be too disastrous for a sane mind to contemplate.

“Anybody from the government of Nigeria or Ohanaeze Ndigbo that thinks that Nnamdi Kanu can be another Ken Saro-Wiwa or M.K.O. Abiola is digging their own grave…..’

Nigerians are suffering because of Buhari’s nepotism – Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said that Nigerians were suffering under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of President Muhammadu Buhari because “the country is in the hands of wrong managers who do not know what to do are not r‎eady to be assisted.”

The governor said “presently, Nigerians are suffering; they are hungry and angry because the APC federal government has ran the country aground,” adding that; “Nigeria has gone beyond recession, the economy has collapsed completely and painfully, those who should revive the economy do not have any clue as to what to do.”
In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said Nigeria was experiencing the worst form of nepotism in the history of government in the country, stressing, “nepotism is the reason our President discarded competent people in his party that should be running the government with him and opted for his relatives, friends, in-laws and very close associates.‎
“The only qualification to hold key positions in the Presidency is to know a certain nephew of the President or be a member of his family, that’s nepotism and what nepotism breeds is incompetence.
“The most influential person in the Presidency today is said to be one Mamman Daura, who is a nephew of the President. Personal Assistant to President Buhari is said to be the son of Mamman Daura while the State
Chief of Protocol is said to be married to Mamman Daura’s daughter.‎
“It is also the height of nepotism that apart from just two, all security chiefs and heads of all the paramilitary agencies in Nigeria, as well as all the political-heads overseeing all the military and paramilitary arms and agencies are from the North of Nigeria,” the governor said.

He said President Buhari was obviously being tormented by fear of the unknown, which he described as the main reason people take to nepotism.

Oscar Pistorius put on suicide watch
Jailed murderer Oscar Pistorius has been put on suicide watch following mysterious wrist injuries that landed him in hospital earlier this month, according to reports on Sunday.

Prison officials told City Press newspaper that the athlete who is serving a six- year sentence for murdering his girlfriend was under 24-hour monitoring, with increased cell visits by warders.

Some inside sources told the paper that razor blades were found in the disgraced athlete’s cell last Saturday afternoon, and that his wrist injuries, described as “severe”, were self-inflicted.

Prison authorities have launched a probe into the incident.
“Our internal investigation is at an advanced stage,” said Correctional Services spokesman Singabakho Nxumalo.
The 29-year-old double-amputee, who is being held at the Kgosi Mampuru II Prison in Pretoria, had told prison officials he sustained the injuries falling off his bed.
According to the newspaper, the injury occurred soon after he had an altercation with prison officials over medication prescribed by state doctors. The Paralympian had refused to take the medication, saying it was “toxic” and demanded to be given medication prescribed by his private doctor.
He alleged that the prison official wanted to kill him and demanded to be transferred to another jail.
Warders also raided his cell and found a pair a scissors, prescription drugs and “toxic pills”.
